General Guidelines

Harassment, abuse, or discriminatory speech will not be tolerated. This includes goading others into arguments. Participants who are unable to exercise basic human decency will be removed from the event effective immediately.

Plagiarism will not be tolerated. If a participant is found to be plagiarising, they will be immediately removed from the event.

Unless otherwise negotiated between gifter and recipient upon reveal of identity, the right of use, reproduction, and/or distribution of works belongs to the content creator.

As the event will be organized via Discord, all participants are required to have a working Discord account. We also request you provide us with a separate social media account so we can verify your identity.

Participants who would like to produce or receive NSFW content must be at or above 18 years of age. If it is discovered that a participant has indicated interest in producing or receiving NSFW content but has lied about being of age, they will be immediately removed from the event.

Due to moderation constraints, this event will only accept fanfiction written in the English language.

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to continue working on your gift/would like to pull out of the event, please inform a mod ASAP so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Creator Guidelines

You will be paired according to your preferences as much as possible.
You will have two months to create a work that fulfils your recipient's prompt.

On 29th - 31st December, finished works must be made publicly available online and the recipient alerted through Discord.

An AO3 account is not necessary, but only AO3 works will be added to the event collection. We also encourage creators to post their work (or a link to their work) on Twitter so that the ORV Winter Exchange account can retweet it.

All fanworks must feature the characters and universe of Omniscient Reader prominently. Alternative Universes are allowed if your recipient has not specified against them. The onus is on the recipient to specify what they want or do not want in their gift.

All works must be tagged with appropriate trigger and content warnings as per AO3 rules and regulations. Creators uploading NSFW works on Twitter are encouraged to use Poipiku or Privatter. Spoiler warnings are not necessary but are strongly encouraged.

Authors must produce a work with a minimum word count of 1500 words. There is no maximum word count; however, keep in mind that you must post a complete fic by 29th - 31st of December.

Artists must produce a work that is polished and fully coloured, not a sketch. If lineart is used, it should be clean. We strongly encourage artists to include a background, even if it is a simple colour or shape.

Pinch Hitter Guidelines

Pinch hitters are special participants that are not part of the regular participant circle.

If your help is needed, you will be activated around 2 to 3 weeks before the deadline (around the start of December).

Please be aware that pinch hitters will only be given a gift if they have been activated. Pinch hitters who have not been activated will not receive a gift.

Frequently Asked Questions

SIGN UPS

Q: I want to participate but missed the sign up period, can I still join?
A: Please note that we will not be accepting applications once the sign up link closes.

Q: I made an error in my application, what should I do?
A: You will receive a copy of your answers (via email) upon submitting the sign up form, and will be able to edit your responses if necessary. Please drop us either an email or direct message on Twitter if you can't edit your responses.

Q: I don't have a Discord account, can I still sign up?
A: The event will be organized primarily via Discord. If a participant does not have a Discord account or remains uncontactable via Discord, it will be taken as a sign of withdrawal from the event.

Q: I don't have a public social media account.
A: We request a publicly accessible social media account (public Twitter / Tumblr / Instagram / Ao3 account, etc) so that we can verify your identity. We will not be able to accept applicants who cannot prove their identity to us. Please drop us a message on Curiouscat if you have any difficulties with this.

Q: I don’t like the person I’ve been assigned to.
A: Please state all personal preferences (squicks, triggers, people you do not want to gift/receive a gift from etc) in your sign up application so that we may make the necessary arrangements. In the event that you are encountering difficulties with your recipient or prompts, please message a mod ASAP so we can address this immediately.

PINCH HITTERS

Q: What's the criteria for a pinch hitter?
A: The same rules and guidelines apply to both regular participants and pinch hitters, but pinch hitters must be able to work under tight deadlines. Pinch hitters will be accepted on a case by case basis.

Q: Can I be both a regular participant and a pinch hitter?
A: If you sign up as a regular participant, you will be able to indicate your interest to pinch hit as well. However, this does not guarantee that you will get both roles. If you are a regular participant and and are also activated as a pinch hitter, you will be entitled to two gifts.

PROMPTS

Q: Is there a theme I need to follow?
A: There is no fixed theme required, but it is Christmas, so feel free to sprinkle in as many reindeer and mistletoe as you want.

Q: What needs to be in a prompt?
A: Your prompt can be as vague as "dokhyuk A/B/O AU" or as specific as "secretary dokja catfishing joonghyuk while their two kids become best friends in kindergarten". Please keep in mind your gifter will be basing their work on the prompt.

Q: What do I do if nobody wants to take my prompt?
A: We will do our best to match gifters and recipients. In the event that we cannot find a match for your prompts, we will ask you to submit another prompt.

Q: What do I do if I don't like the prompts I've been assigned?
A: Please alert us ASAP so we can make the necessary adjustments.

Q: What do I do if I need clarification on a prompt?
A: Please message a mod in private and let us know what you require clarification on. Once we receive clarification from your recipient, we will forward the information to you.

CONTENT CREATION

Q: Can I write/draw an OC?
A: You can, as long as ORV characters are the main focus of the work and your recipient has not specified against it.

Q: What do I do if I can’t finish on time?
A: Please alert us ASAP so we can make the necessary arrangements. In such a situation, you forfeit all rights to participate in the Winter Exchange event, and will not be entitled to a gift at the end of the event.

Q: Can I collaborate with other people?
A: You may, but please submit only one sign up form for the entire team (and let us know in the form as well). Please note that each sign up application will be treated as a single participant, so each collaboration team will be entitled to one gift per team. We do not recommend collaborating with others for this event.

REVEAL DATE

Q: I would like to remain anonymous to my recipient even after the event ends.
A: We require all works be made public and all identities revealed on the gift exchange date.

Q: Does my work have to be stand-alone?
A: If you are writing a fanfic, the work must be readable as a stand-alone. You may expand on the universe after the event is completed, but the gift itself must be complete by the submission date.

Q: Can I upload my work in parts?
A: No. The full completed work must be uploaded on 29th - 31st December.
